Two Stroke Engine

In the two stroke engine the cycle is completed in two strokes, i.e. one revolution of the crankshaft as against two revolutions of four strokes.

The difference between two strokes and four strokes is in the method of filling the cylinder with the fresh charge and removing the burned gas from the cylinder. In the four stroke engine these operations are performed by the engine piston during the suction and exhaust stroke respectively.

In the two stroke engine suction is accomplished by air compressed in crankcase or by a blower. The induction of compressed air removes the products of combustion through exhaust port. Therefore no piston strokes are required to complete the cycle, one for compressing the fresh charge and other expansion or power stroke.

  1. Good one about 2 stoke engines. Industrial engines are popular and 2 stroke engines are more useful compared to 4 stroke engines!
